Massage Cupping Therapy is the combination of massage movements and negative pressure with the use of a suction device on the skin. A cup is positioned at the area to be treated and a vacuum is created within the cup to draw the skin and underlying tissue into the cup.
The use of cups allows for the stretching and opening of muscle tissue. This lifting creates space to drain toxins from the cells and remove waste through the lymphatic system. Cupping massage therapy very rarely produces discoloration, called a “cup kiss” or “doo-hickey.” If this appears during the treatment, it’s just an added bonus indicating the release of intense stagnation (body fluids and toxins) in the area. This is not a bruise and will dissipate anywhere between a few hours and a few days. It is also unlikely that it will re-occur in the same area.
Benefits of cupping therapy include increased circulation, elimination of stagnant blood, sedation of the nervous system, stimulation of the digestive system, and removal of lactic acids and toxins from the muscles. Just to name a few, cupping is also effective against Fibromyalgia, lethargy, anxiety, body aches, high/low blood pressure, inflammation, toxicity, and chronic joint conditions. And an added benefit – emotional issues that have been buried there for years may also begin to be released. It’s no secret that buried emotions and stress directly impact our health, and many practitioners believe the belly holds all kinds of unprocessed emotions, contributing to all manner of pain throughout the body.
When used in a treatment series, the results are cumulative.
Facial cupping are used alternatively to relieve the uncomfortable symptoms of TMJ, sinus infection, allergies, migraines, inflammation and other conditions. Facial cupping therapy also helps to rejuvenate and maintain a youthful appearance without the use of painful injections. Small cups vacuum and lift facial tissue to increase circulation, plump fine lines, and smooth wrinkles. This can be used as an add-on to existing skin care services or as a stand-alone treatment.

Clients should be advised to avoid makeup the day of treatment in order to minimize impurities in the skin. Clients should also be encouraged to stay well-hydrated both before and after treatment to maximize the benefits. Shaving or other hair removal should be avoided on the day of the cupping treatment as skin will be more sensitive. Excessive heat or sun exposure should also be avoided as skin may be sensitive for up to 12 hours after treatment.
As with any facial, cupping draws impurities to the surface and there may be a breakout immediately after treatment, so cupping should be avoided within three to five days before an event like a wedding. The risk of post-treatment breakouts, called a “healing crisis”, diminishes with regular treatments.
Contraindications for facial cupping are similar to those for providing any skin care services. Facial cupping is contraindicated on:
*Recommended twice a week for 6 weeks (non-consecutive days).
Many factors play a role in the formation of cellulite. When blood circulation decreases, fluid is retained and waste is trapped, which can cause the dimpling effect we recognize as cellulite. Light negative pressure encourages waste drainage while heavier cupping suction stimulates circulation of affected areas. Regular treatments may provide the bet results in cellulite reduction in 2-3 weeks.

Deep Tissue Massage combined with Massage Cupping, a modern form of vacuum therapy that uses negative pressure to reduce pain. This therapy helps to increase circulation, softens tight muscles, tones attachments, loosens adhesions, break up scar tissue, lifts connective tissue and promotes lymphatic drainage. Cupping suction also brings hydration and blood flow to body tissues, and drains excess fluids and toxins by opening lymphatic pathways (a vital part of the immune system).
